i grew up in the South but have spent my entire adult life in the North, so in many ways my life has straddled the Mason / Dixon Line. but this song is more about wanting to protect a loved one, be it a parent, spouse, sibling, or friend, from the ugly harsh sides of life. this is something that's really hard to do, but while writing these lyrics i realized how good a job my parents, especially my father, did in shielding me from the ugly side of the South as a kid.
